Spring Cleaning

Mikey is studying for his finals. He is almost done with his first year of medical school. We can't believe it has gone so fast! Last time this year we didn't know where we would be living. He has two weeks of tests and then will do five weeks of clinical rotations. (pediatric and internal medicine rounds) First year will officially end June 12th. Mikey will then take part in a two week preceptorship in the emergency room department at the hospital.

Katie has not been studying for tests but getting students ready for tests. What does she do exactly? Well, she works with small groups of four and fifth grade students and often has long extended breaks. Katie is still tutoring at a private company and applying for jobs for next year. Nothing is certain in these times, especially in school districts. One moment you can have a job and the next not.

Together, Mikey and Katie will be traveling to Bere, Chad this summer. After a long time of praying and figuring out details, they have finalized their trip. They will be working with a missionary couple who are the doctors at the hospital. Chad is extremely poor and has limited resources. This is the only trauma hospital in Chad, therefore it is the place where everyone comes. We will both be working in the hospital and around the area. The doctor told us that he trains everyone to do different procedures. (he is the only doctor there) For example training the janitor to give c-sections. Therefore we are not sure what to expect but are trusting in the Lord to use us effectively and to further His kingdom.

So now we are spring cleaning. Welcoming in the long days and warm nights. We can't wait for this summer. We will be moving out of our apartment to save rent and then look for a new place when we get back from Africa. Mikey will start his second year of medical school and Katie will......who knows? She could possibly start seminary, possibly get a teaching job, possibly...

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all your heart

and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him,

and he will make your paths straight.

Year of the Blizzard

I am 25 now, and ready to go! I had great birthday celebrations. Mikey and I went to the beach and enjoyed a sunny day with friends from Loma Linda and Westmont. I was so happy when Vanessa, Layne, and Kaitlin came down for dinner. It made my night to see them. I think that this is going to be a great year! More to come later but I will leave you with this:

"The evidence of faith is obedience" Just like when Abram listened to God's call and went. Genesis 12:1-9

*oh yeah, and it is the Blizzards 25th birthday too! How perfect!

Easter Sunday

This weekend was wonderful to be with almost all of my family. The best part was going to church and hearing my dad preach. He did an amazing job. Sarah flew in from Boston, Matthew drove from Santa Barbara, and Mikey and I made the trek from Loma Linda. We even got to celebrate my almost birthday on Saturday! It's the big one this year :) 25!!!

Boston, New York, what's next?

A simple sister's trip. Nothing is simple when the sister's get together. "Katie, fly across country and be ready to move." Those were the words that Sarah told me in preparation. This was not suppose to be a relaxing, see what we feel like doing trip, no this was a carefully planned and executed trip, leaving no room for error. I arrived in Boston on a cold cold night. My California body could not quite tolerate the freezing temperatures (50s?). We celebrated Sarah's birthday over a nice dinner and proceeded to go back to her room and review the schedule. Friday we would go to Connecticut and Saturday we would catch the train into New York City. Neither of us could sleep that night as our minds pondered all that we would see. We arrived in New York City on a cold Saturday morning, grabbed Broadway tickets, walked around times square, went to the top of the empire state building, saw a show, walked around the city more, went to dinner, took the cab to Serendipity for dessert, took a cab back to the apartment and sleep. Sunday we woke up early took the subway to central park, took the subway to Battery Park, walked to the world trade center site, saw the statue of liberty, took the subway to macys, shopped for 12 minutes, took the train back to Connecticut and then drove to Boston. Thanks Sarah for yet again another fabulously planned and flawlessly thought out schedule. And thanks to my wonderful husband who let me use his free airline ticket :)
