Since about the middle of my pregnancy I planned specific things to do each weekend until 30 weeks. I wanted everything to be done at 30 weeks just in case :) I had the crib set up, painted the bookshelf with Sarah, sewed the name banner, and so on. Officially I was due August 2nd....but I thought the he would come early. I finished teaching in the middle of June and immediately went on maternity leave at 33 weeks. I thought 33 weeks was soo close to being done, but I was wrong! I practically still had two months!
Fast forward to week 40. I had made it to my due date and to the doctors appointment that I hoped I wouldn't see. We asked about labor inducing strategies and she scheduled an induction date for the next week. My goal was to get to the hospital before that date! Mikey and I went on looong walks every night. We enjoyed going down new streets and looking at the old Victorian houses in Redlands. We of course indulged in many treats too. Mikey and I both had NOTHING scheduled for the beginning of August, anticipating that you would be born then. I had finished everything in the nursery, organized clothes, and then reorganized. The week of your arrival we were going stir crazy! I was 40 weeks plus 5 days and I was like maybe we should go to the mountains? maybe the beach? I didn't want to drive far but we contemplated long and hard about going to the mountains on that Tuesday.... but I am glad we didn't! I settled for watching Father of the Bride Two and Mikey read. At 6:00 that Tuesday I asked Mikey if he wanted to go to the middle school pool party...he said sure. So we headed to the pool party, I chatted with my friends, and of course all the talk was when you were going to come! I had felt fine all day. I was sleeping better and better at night...didn't think that was possible but it was! Every night I would go to sleep expecting to be woken up by contractions or my water braking.... So after the party we stopped at Rubios for a late dinner. We ran into a couple from our Bible Study, and they said, "Your still pregnant!?" Yes, yes I was. After dinner we went home to watch the Olympics. We stayed up until 11:00 and then I told Mikey I was tired and going to sleep. As I was walking to the bedroom I felt a very painful contraction. That hadn't happened before! I ran back to the living room and told Mikey... he said okay, let's go to bed. As we were praying I felt another contraction and could not lay down. I had to stand up and walk. It was 11:30 pm and the contractions started happening one after the other. "Mikey this is it!" He calming said okay, let me take a shower. So he took a shower and I paced. I had planned to take a shower, do my make up, but I couldn't do ANYTHING! It hurt so bad! I told Mikey that we had to go NOW. My worst fear was not making it to the hospital in time. As we were driving I called my mom and sister. It was even hard for me to talk. Upon arrival of the hospital Mikey dropped me off at the Emergency Room. That was where they told us to go if it was after 6:00. I walked up to the triage lady and said, "I am having a baby!" She said okay, walk down the hall, go up the elevator, and sign in at the labor ward. So I walked slowly, waiting for Mikey to come, holding on the walls as I went... why didn't anyone offer this poor girl a wheel chair? Anyways, Mikey finally came and we made it to the maternity ward. I got checked in and the Dr. was surprised at how fast I was progressing especially this being my first baby. She asked if I would like an epidural and I said, "Yes please!" Once the epidural was placed everything seemed to go a lot better. We got set up in a nice room and the nurse told us to try and sleep. Mikey slept, I did not. I kept watching the monitor and pressing the epidural button. By 8:00 am my mom, dad, and Sarah had arrived at the hospital. During the mid morning, at one point when the nurse was talking to us, an earthquake happened. I looked at Mikey, and said my worst fear is coming true! Being stuck in a natural disaster while giving birth! Luckily it wasn't very big and the nurse didn't even notice. At 12:00 pm the nurse said that you would probably be born by 3:00. She left the room and let me labor, returning at 1:15. At 1:15 she said it was time to push and at exactly 2:00 pm you were born! You came a lot faster then expected, the Dr. had to rush in... I was so shocked at how fast they worked to get you out! Within a couple minutes you were in my arms. The sweetest and cutest baby there ever was :)
