ONE month away!

One month till Match Day!  Now, if you already know what match day is, then don't read this post :)

This is how it works: Mikey is applying to be an Emergency Room Physician.  He interviewed at 12 programs across the nation.....Now that he done with all his interviews, we put the programs in order of where we would like to go.  Mikey then submits the list through the online database.  Once it's submitted you can't change the order.  All the programs rank each interviewee in order of who they liked....they submit their list to the computer......

On Friday, March 15 each fourth year medical student across the country receives an envelope that tells them where they are going.  The computer does an algorithm and spits out an answer as to which program you have matched at... We could get our number 1 choice or or number 12 choice.... only the Lord knows!

Here is a video that shows one school's version of match day.  Loma Linda does it on a smaller scale.
This is to help you get a picture of how exciting it is!

Anticipating 2013 (or maybe just March)

As I picked up Mikey from the airport this week, I said just one more interview! We are finishing the interview trail (as med people like to call it) in Denver next week.  I am looking forward to putting our suitcases away for a while.... even though I do like travel.  We really have it down to an art now....  This past week the urology match happened and two of our friends found out where they are going.  This just pumped up the rest of the fourth years and their wives...  We just have to wait till March 15!!!  I know it will come soon but part of me just wants to wait in bed till then... I know that's weird.  When in your life to you get to open an envelope that tells you where you will be living?  Who thought of this anyways?  The anticipation can really get to a person but I am excited.  Right now I can look at all the possibilities... come March 15, all the possibilities will be gone and we will be given ONE place to go.....

Besides medical school stuff..... we have enjoyed quality family time together.  Bible study and TMOMS started back up this week, which is always a highlight.  Isaiah is now 5 and half months... quickly approaching 6 months!  He has a bad cough and I am hoping it goes away soon.  I am in the midst of planning Mikey's HUGE graduation party!!!  (if you want to come, leave a comment below)  We are really going to celebrate that weekend, let me tell you!

A Traveling Doctor

We are in the midst of what they call "interview season" here in medical school.  Mikey is in his last year of medical school and during this time all students are applying and interviewing for a residency position.  Mikey is going to be an emergency room doctor.  His residency will be 3 or 4 years depending on the program.  He has applied to places all over the United States, it is very competitive this year and we are praying that he just gets a spot somewhere! For those of you that are unfamiliar with these medical terms (I was), Residency is when you train in your specialty, you are a full fledged doctor at that point receiving a small pay check.

Mikey just returned last night from Chattanooga  Tennessee! He interviewed at a hospital there.  He has already interviewed at Loma Linda and UC Davis.  In December and January he will travel to Georgia, North Carolina, Nebraska, and Oklahoma.  He will most likely be going on more interviews, we are just waiting to receive those invites! (any day)

Here are some pictures of our little doctor in training! Halloween 2012

Cleaning, Emergencies, and 39+ weeks

Whenever I have a deadline....I work to finish the project BEFORE it's due.  Mikey will work and turn in the  project THE day it's due.... so I am not that anxious yet for the baby to come because he hasn't reached his Due Date!  I do believe that he will come before this coming Thursday though.... I think the house is SO clean that I am afraid it is going to get messy by the time we actually head out the door.  Mikey just finished his Emergency Room rotation, he told me that the baby could not come before today.  So apparently our baby is already obedient :)

3 years down....one to go!

Its hard to believe that a year from this May, Mikey will be a doctor!  Even though my posts have recently been about our baby, there is a lot of other things going on as well!  Mikey is finishing his third year of medical school.  This summer he will apply for residences to be an Emergency Room doctor.  Most days we are both waking up before 6:00 and getting home exhausted from work.  The Browns keep busy! (I am patiently waiting for him to set the crib up.....if you read this Mikey you are welcome to do it anytime now)

Sister Sarah is graduating this weekend with her Masters in Social Work!!! We can't wait to watch her graduate again.

Medical School Update

Well Mikey is just about finished with his second year of medical school. He has been studying like crazy for all his finals. In a little under a month he will take Step 1 of the medical boards. During his break from school (1 week) we will be taking a small cruise to Mexico! (the same ship that caught on fire last year.....we got a good deal :) ) He starts his third year on June 13th with a six week rotation in Psychiatrics. The Lord has certainly been blessing Mikey in his studies and giving him the strength to finish the year well.

Keep your head in the game!!!
